I purchased a box tea bags for $2.16. Once brewed, this works out to a unit cost of $0.0042 per ounce. A glass should run me about three cents.
At lunch today, I was craving some tea with my turkey sandwich. Luckily for me, there is a Starbucks right across the street from my office. I bought myself a delicious cup of unsweetened black tea for $2.75. This yields a unit cost of $0.1146 per ounce. That is 27 TIMES more expensive than the above referenced Lipton tea bags. Yes it was delicious, but I’m an idiot! Who do they think they are, and why do I stand in line to buy it???

Oh, Chandra. You are not alone!!!!! I LOVE their iced tea-except I also l love that darn classic syrup!
They also make "Cold Brew" tea bags- just put in a cold glass of water, wait 5 minutes, add a few cubes and you are ready to be caffeinated!! I'll have to bring you some of my favorites on a Monday: Coconut Mango, Mint Mojito and Peach from Stash teas:)
Hello fellow diet coke giver upper. I too now have a mean iced tea habit. I brew it with my handy dandy Mr. Coffee Iced Tea Maker and then I founf a 30 ounce large purple plastic Tupperware cup with lid in the very very back of my cabinet and poof! I bring my tea to work with me. I have a separate cup I fill with ice, and I just keep refilling it with the tea from the Tupperware cup all day. And guess what?? I am rich. Since I stopped buying diet coke and started bringing my sad no carb no sugar no fun lunch, I actually have money in my purse at any given time. It is awesomeness.
I love the insight in this post. Seriously, when you have to to pay 27 times the price for something, it pretty hard to justify doing so. I always tell my readers when they see price discrepancies like this, the smartest thing they can do is... run screaming out of the store.
Oh, and the fact that you had to wait in line too just adds insult to injury, doesn't it?
