My Kind of Snow Day

My awesome parents and brother gave us the perfect Christmas present this year, which we finally had the opportunity to enjoy this past weekend. They sent Joel and I to the Purgatory Ski Resort in Durango, CO while they excitedly took our kiddos for a weekend of G-ma and G-pa fun.
Each time I go on a ski trip, I return even more addicted to that beautiful white powder! (Don't read that sentence out of context, eh!)

We left town on Thursday afternoon and made a pit stop in Flagstaff at the Lumberyard Brewing Co. for lunch. We love brewery food, and thanks to the great strides I've made in my learn-to-love-beer resolution, we both love beer too. About six hours later, we were sitting in the Steamworks Brewery in beautiful Durango.
Then we got settled into what we thought would be our hotel...it actually turned out to be more of a condo.
For the next two days, we just skied our little hearts out. The runs were wide open, and often we were one of only a handful of people on the slope. We never waited for a lift, the weather was perfect, and were able to cover miles and miles of terrain.
We had such a blast and we're already planning our next trip back. We're going to return with the kids in the summer to do some river rafting, ride the train, and hit the slide ride. Then hopefully we'll head back again in the winter to take the kids skiing with us! (I just love watching little kids ski. I watched this little 4-year old for awhile who was a total rock star on the mountain. I followed him for a bit to see if I could pick up some pointers. Hopefully our kids will take to it easier than I did!)
Thanks Mom, Dad, and Chad for the awesome gift!!

Oooh, those are my FAVORITE kinds of gifts! Can you talk to my inlaws about doing the same for us sometime? ;-)

Your parents ROCK! As time has gone on, I've really grown to appreciate gifts that are a gift of an experience or a gift of time, as opposed to another sweater or knicknack.

Also, it was so nice to read an account of someone going skiing without breaking something. Seriously - every friend and acquaintance I've known recently who has gone skiing with their family has come back with a kid with a broken leg or wrist or some such.
