When we woke up on the morning of New Year's Eve, we had precisely nothing planned. Well, in my mind, I had hoped that some sort of breakfast involving chorizo would soon happen, but the plans didn't really extend beyond that. But as we were getting ready to grab some breakfast, we decided it might be a good idea to drive up north and play in the snow.
We tried on the kids jackets from last year, and when several inches of arms were hanging below their sleeves, we realized that they'd need new jackets before any snow play. I also figured that as long as we were heading up north, I'd drop off some old clothes for my cousin Jenna to have for her kids. (She lives in Chino Valley, near Prescott.) So Joel ran to the store to buy jackets, I ran home to organize for our spontaneous road trip, and I sent Jenna a message to see if she'd be around for a delivery.
In a few short minutes, we had a snow play date arranged! Elliot and Ethan had a great time playing with Taylor and Colin. Joel and Flint took turns snowboarding down our little hill. And the very pregnant Jenna was quite the trooper standing out in the cold snow!
After playing in the snow for a bit, we warmed up over a late lunch at Red Robin, and then went back to Flint and Jenna's for a game night. The kids played until hours past their bedtime, and then snuggled up on the couch for a movie. We've decided that this will have to be a much more regular occurance!
We finally loaded up to head home around 11:30, and the thermometer in the truck read -2 degrees! I think that is the coldest weather I've ever experienced!
It was a pretty rockin' New Year's Eve!
