I am a huge wine lover, but there are so many situations when I would like to have a good drink, but it just isn’t practical or possible to enjoy wine. Have you tasted some of the swill that passes for wine in many restaurants? And Joel is a great lover of beer, especially microbrews. Microbreweries almost always serve terrific food, and it’s a shame to order third-rate wine when I ought to be enjoying an excellent beer.
So I’ve spent the last several evenings sampling some different types of beers as I try to appreciate the complex and unique flavors.
I enjoyed the Trout Slayer Ale, the Scape Goat Pale Ale, and the Big Sky IPA. I especially enjoyed the Summer Honey Seasonal Ale. That one was delicious, and was definitely my favorite! Of all of the varieties I sampled, only the dark brown ale didn’t quite suit my taste. It had a bit of coffee flavor to it, and since I’m not a coffee lover, I didn’t care for that beer. But since I’m the only grown-up in the universe that isn’t mainlining Starbucks, I imagine most people would think it was delicious!
My beer adventures paid off on our recent Zion trip, when I tried Joel’s Polygamy Porter and loved it. I never would have dreamed of drinking a porter before, but with a name like that, I couldn’t pass it up!
I’m always looking to expand my beer horizons. Do you have any suggestions of beers to try for a relatively inexperience beer drinker?

Would you believe my husband has a T-shirt with the Pologamy Porter logo on it? I only let him wear it in certain social settings. :) I agree though, there is a time and place for drinking beer and it's nice to enjoy one every once in a while.
Glad to hear you are trying beer! I really like beer, actually. With one of my favorites being Porter. I love creamy, thick...like an alcoholic milk shake.
But usually, when I'm not knocked up, I like a lighter ale or lager because beer tends to fill more than wine.
Have you tried The Yard House? They have a terrific selection of beers. I personally love the Frambois that they serve, a raspberry beer. So yummy. But it's more the consistency of a Porter rather than a lager. But it's all yumminess to me...
Mmmmmmmm, beer.........
I have nothing much to add, but I just had to say the beer names and labels are creative and hilarious! A while back we ate at BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse and I had fun reading all the beer names on the menu. They also had specialty sodas too - for us non-drinkers. Fun! The food was awesome too... if you're ever on the west side and want a place to eat.
