I have several cakes I’ve made for my kids’ birthday parties recently.
Just last weekend, we hosted a pink pirate party for my daughter’s 5th birthday. I used the paper plates we ordered as inspiration and made a girly skull-and-crossbones pink cake. This wasn’t my favorite cake, but I suspect some of my challenges were weather related. Frosting can be persnickety in Arizona’s July heat!
For Ethan’s 3rd birthday, he requested a Lightning McQueen race track cake. This cake was a blast to make, and I was thrilled with the outcome. I posted some detailed and specific cake decorating tips geared toward a beginner decorator (i.e. me) that might be helpful for someone who hasn’t done many cakes.
In the obscenely Technicolor division, Ethan’s 2nd birthday cake featured a vibrant choo-choo train. I think this proves that cake decorating skills improve drastically with just a bit of practice!
